Helpful Information On Getting The Most Out Of Your Wedding Photography Shoot

David Paillas Photography

Time I usually arrive to photograph the boys for around 45 mins as they are getting ready. For the bride I require an hour and prefer you to be made up and ready to jump into your dress on my arrival so I can capture the moment with your bridesmaids and family. Remember if you’re running late you will be late for everything, ceremony and reception and you won’t be able to relax and enjoy your photos. The flowers should also be delivered before me. Please do not allow a makeup artist to do your makeup after the bridesmaids, the brides makeup needs to be ready on my arrival so we can start your photos it doesn’t matter if the bridesmaids aren’t ready on my arrival. Room preparation for your photos should include moving clutter elsewhere but the most important thing is the light, I need natural light coming in windows so all blinds need to be fully opened. Also room temperature should be adjusted to allow you to be relaxed and comfortable.

After the ceremony you will be congratulated by guests, keep in mind that this is eating into your photography time. Many weddings now are getting the celebrant to make an announcement to guests to save their congratulations to the reception saving the couple valuable time for their photo shoot. If you would like a group photo of all your guests after the ceremony its best to get the celebrant to announce this request at the end of the ceremony. This allows you to capture every guest before they wonder off and saves you time by not having to chase guests for the photo. Photographers need time to produce great photos and having more time not only allows you to relax, it is quite often the difference in being able to visit a few different photo locations.

On the photo location shoot, bridesmaids can be of great importance helping spread the dress and watching out for hair and makeup. To many bridesmaids forget their title of 'bridesmaid' and the role they play.

Once on the location photo shoot I will direct you so you feel comfortable throughout the afternoon. Two hours is the enough time to capture great wedding photographs, however I believe there is never enough time to photograph everything so I work on prioritising what I feel is important and not waste time on doing things that are less important. I’m a huge fan of getting around to various locations, I love photographing old rusting sheds on farms, wide open spaces, trees and particularly love the ocean as it’s my life. I don’t like wasting time travelling to far to these locations if you don’t have the time in the first place. Keep in mind bigger bridal parties slow you down, vintage cars aren’t fast and when taking drinks on the shoot you’ll need a bit more time to drink it. You can also save time by having your flowers with you all the time as most photographs I take will involve your flowers.

At the reception I pretty much take a few shots of the room setup, speeches, cutting of the cake, various couples and groups, the bridal waltz, and the action on the dance floor. My 9pm finish only sometimes gets all this action so it’s a good idea to have me until 9.30pm or 10pm.

Your photos will be ready for you within 3 weeks and a sneak peak may be put on my Facebook page for you and your guest’s perusal. With the album packages we require you to make your choices strictly within 10 days of receiving your photos.
